I am a semi-vegetarian. Personally I think meat stinks, especially beef. When I cook it for my husband it stinks up the whole house. He thinks it smells wonderful (grilled steak or hamburger) - it nearly gags me! I can eat chicken once in a while (cola chicken recipe in particular) and turkey is okay tasting.

From what I've read, I don't think it's necessary to get protein from meat sources to be healthy though. Some of the soy products are good tasting, and I love the taste of 2 particular soy milks: Sun Soy and Silk. They are the only ones I'll drink. I've tried many others and just don't like the taste. The Boca line of soy products is particularly tasty and Yves has some good stuff and I've always like Gardenburgers too.

But you don't have to buy that stuff to eat well. And it doesn't have to cost a lot to eat vegetarian. Just look at the price of meat! I eat more cheaply than my husband. If you stick with whole grains in all the many varieties, and eat lots of beans and legumes (also many varieties) you'll get all the protein you need to be healthy. The only thing missing would be Vitamin B12 and if you drink soy milk that's "fortified" with it then that takes care of that too. (anyway, I read that it takes 5 years to deplete your body's storage of B12!! So if you do eat some meat, fish, or eggs occasionally you don't have to worry about it at all.)

There's a lot of info on the internet about Vegetarianism and a lot of recipe sites too. Do a search and explore and you'll find some interesting facts and dispel a lot of myths too.
