Kim, I agree, I think that the school district here where I live is trying to make perfect cookie-cutter robots! I know there has to be some rules of conduct and dress, but I think they go overboard here. Most kids do go through a phase or two of expressing their individuality & that can be a good thing. We want them to be their own person, but sometimes we stifle their expression when it is unnecessary. I told my son that he can choose what he wears as long as it is covering what needs to be covered and isn't vulgar or negative/hateful. I do make him wear a belt so that his butt isn't hanging out of his jeans. He doesn't like jeans that fit his waist. He skateboards and likes them a little loose. As long as I am not seeing the crack of his hiney, I am okay. (I have to fuss at my DH over the crack thing sometimes, too!) :b
